Professional Learning Communities Level 2

Our GaTE Professional Learning Communities are groups of educators (teachers, GaTE Coordinators, Senior Management) who share common values or beliefs about New Zealand gifted and talented education and are actively engaged in learning together from each other. The workshops below are Level 2 and are for those who participated in the Learning Communities previously.

Workshop one

Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei
(Aim for the highest cloud so that if you miss it, you will hit a lofty mountain)

How does Ka Hikitia relate to our GATE programmes? What strategies can we use to encourage the growth and achievement of our Māori gifted students?

Workshop two

What to do with 2E?
How do we differentiate for our twice exceptional students? What BYOD support is available to support them to make progress in the regular classroom? How do we break down educational psychologists’ reports so that teachers make use of them?

Workshop three

The gender debate

What are the barriers that prevent gifted boys and gifted girls from achieving? How do these barriers differ between the sexes? What strategies can be put in place to help negotiate these barriers?

Workshop four

Under the microscope

How do I use assessment tools to assist in identification? What resources are there to support subject identification? How do I assess which tools suit my school’s context?
